📚 Education Meets Sustainability
Teachers and students have welcomed the initiative as a practical approach to climate education. By linking environmental stewardship with classroom learning, the project is expected to build a culture of conservation that extends beyond schools into households and communities.
A headteacher at Konongo noted, “Our pupils are excited. They feel proud to plant something that will outlive them. It makes environmental education real.”
Despite the excitement, questions remain about funding, long-term maintenance, and access to water for tree growth, especially in schools facing infrastructure challenges. Stakeholders have urged the Assembly to complement the project with logistics and training for sustainability.
The MCE has assured residents that his office will collaborate with NGOs, forestry agencies, and community leaders to keep the project alive.
🌟 Community Response
Parents and youth groups in the municipality praised the campaign as timely, especially in the wake of climate change concerns and deforestation in parts of Asante Akim. Local chiefs have also pledged land spaces for tree planting around community centers.
